Restaurants with a View in Sofia: Rooftop Bars and Sunsets
Restaurants with a view in Sofia: Ozone on floor 29, Djanam Sky on 22, rooftop bars by the cathedral, sunset times, dress codes and what to book ahead.

Sofia's restaurants and bars with a view sit on the top floors of a few tall hotels and on rooftops in the historic centre. The highest is Ozone Skybar & Lounge on the 29th floor of Grand Hotel Millennium, with Spectrum restaurant one floor below and Djanam Sky on the 22nd floor of a tower on General Totleben Boulevard. Closer to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Parliament, the rooftops are lower but more central: The Scene on top of the Hyatt Regency and the Sense Hotel rooftop bar. The detail that matters most is opening time. In winter the sun sets around 5 pm, and only some of these places are open by then. We checked hours, dress codes and age rules on each venue's own website on 18 October 2026.

All prices are in euro: Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. Prices for what you can book with us were read from our booking system the same day, and the price shown when you book is the one that counts. We do not quote menu prices for the venues, as they change; every place below publishes its menu online.
Rooftop bars in Sofia worth the elevator ride
Sofia's rooftops are mostly about cocktails, small plates and the sunset rather than a full dinner. These four are the ones we looked at closely.
Ozone Skybar, floor 29 of Grand Hotel Millennium
The hotel bills it as the highest bar in Bulgaria. It crowns Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia at 89B Vitosha Boulevard, next to the National Palace of Culture, and has two panoramic terraces with retractable roofs, so it works in winter too. Expect signature cocktails, sushi and sharing plates. Hours: Monday to Thursday 6 pm to 2 am, Friday to Sunday 11 am to 2 am. The dress code is cocktail attire, and after 6 pm under 18s only come in with an adult. Thursday to Saturday nights it turns into a party, so pick another night if you want a quiet drink. Tables are booked through the hotel website.
The Scene, on the roof of the Hyatt Regency
The rooftop bar of Hyatt Regency Sofia on Vasil Levski Square, a short walk from the cathedral, looks out over the cathedral domes towards Vitosha. It opens Tuesday to Thursday 5 pm to midnight and Friday and Saturday 5 pm to 2 am; no hours are listed for Sunday or Monday. Smart casual, no sportswear, and after 7 pm no men's shorts, tank tops or flip flops. It is a cocktail bar, not a restaurant.
Sense Hotel rooftop bar
On top of Sense Hotel at 16 Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, right by Parliament and a few minutes from the cathedral. It opens earliest of the central rooftops: Wednesday to Saturday 10 am to 2 am, Sunday to Tuesday 10 am to 1 am, which makes it the easy choice for a winter sunset. Smart casual after 6 pm, with no shorts, bermudas, sportswear, flip flops or crocs. Tables by phone on +359 884 544 108.
Kitchen59 rooftop
The rooftop bar of a design hotel at 59 Tsar Boris III Boulevard, a short tram ride from the centre, with views over the city and Vitosha. Open daily 9 am to 12:30 am, so it also works for a morning coffee. A DJ plays on Fridays and Saturdays, when the bar asks you to book. It is the most relaxed option here.
Sky-high dining in Sofia: dinner with a view
If you want a proper dinner with a main course and wine rather than cocktails, these are the places to book.
- Spectrum, floor 28 of the Millennium: Asian and Latin American cooking, night views of Sofia and a guest DJ. Open daily 6 pm to 1 am, smart casual. The Gallery, the fine dining room on the same floor, is listed as temporarily closed.
- Panorama, top floor of Hotel Marinela: international cooking with views of the city or Vitosha, depending on your side of the room. Open daily 7 pm to 1 am, at 100 James Bourchier Boulevard in Lozenets.
- ADOR at the InterContinental: a terrace rather than a rooftop, but one that faces Parliament and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral head on. Meat, fish and Mediterranean dishes, open daily 11 am to 1 am, so it also suits a long lunch. It is part of InterContinental Sofia at 4 Narodno Sabranie Square.
Djanam Sky and Captain Cook: what booking through us includes
Two restaurants can be booked on our site, both with the same local host, who has worked in Sofia's nightlife for 12 years. In both cases the listed price, €10 per person, is not the price of dinner. It covers a one way ride from your hotel or apartment and a reserved table. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for at the restaurant, from its own menu.
Djanam Sky: the 22nd floor and a show
A steakhouse with Turkish cooking on the 22nd floor of the tower at 8 General Totleben Boulevard, with big windows over the city. This is not a quiet dinner: there are singers, dancers and an evening show, and it gets louder as the night goes on. Our evening at Djanam Sky includes a one way ride and a reserved private table overlooking the dance floor for €10 per person. According to our host the venue opens at 8:30 pm (Djanam's own website lists no hours), and the ride leaves around then, so in winter you arrive after dark and see the city lights rather than the sunset. Under the booking terms guests must be 18 or over, bookings need 24 hours' notice, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
Captain Cook restaurant in Sofia: is there a view?
Honestly, not much of one. Captain Cook is on the second floor of Hotel Marinela, and its appeal is the ship themed room, with old maps and model masts, and the food: fresh fish cooked seven ways and quality beef. The hotel's own page for the restaurant does not mention a view. It opens daily from noon to 10 pm, so for dinner aim to arrive by about 8 pm. Our Captain Cook dinner booking includes a one way ride and a reserved table for €10 per person and suits all ages. If you want a view the same night, go up to Panorama on the hotel's top floor afterwards.
Sunset times in Sofia by season
The classic mistake is booking a table with a view for a time when it is already dark. These are Sofia's approximate sunset times in local time; about half an hour of blue light over Vitosha follows each one.
| When | Sunset, approx. | Open at that time |
|---|---|---|
| Late October | 5:30 pm (clocks go back on 25 October) | Sense, Kitchen59, ADOR; The Scene Tuesday to Saturday |
| November to January | 4:55 to 5:40 pm | Sense, Kitchen59, ADOR; The Scene opens at 5 pm Tuesday to Saturday, right around sunset; Ozone Friday to Sunday only |
| Mid February | 6 pm | As in winter, and Ozone opens right at sunset on weekdays |
| Mid April | 8:10 pm | All, except Djanam Sky (opens 8:30 pm) |
| June and July | 8:50 to 9:10 pm | All |
| Mid September | 7:40 pm | All, except Djanam Sky |
In winter the rule is simple: catch the sunset at a rooftop that opens in the morning or afternoon, then go up to a high floor for dinner and the city lights. A weekend at Ozone lets you do both in one place.

Where no dress code is published, long trousers and closed shoes are the safe bet. Always book for Friday and Saturday, and ask specifically for a window or terrace table: without that request you can easily end up in the middle of the room with no view at all. On New Year's Eve the view tables go first, so ask each venue early whether there is a special evening and what it costs; the rest of that night is covered in our New Year's Eve in Sofia and Bansko guide.
Romantic dinner in Sofia, or an evening with kids
For couples, a weekend sunset at Ozone, or dinner at Spectrum followed by a cocktail one floor up, is the most special evening you can have in the city without leaving the building. For something calmer, choose Panorama or ADOR and skip Djanam Sky, which is mostly a show. With children, Captain Cook welcomes all ages, and ADOR, Sense and Kitchen59 open in the morning, which is the easy time to bring them. Djanam Sky is 18+, and Ozone admits children in the evening only with their parents.
The view from Vitosha
The widest view of Sofia is not from a hotel roof but from Vitosha, the mountain that rises right above the city. Our half day tour of central Sofia and Vitosha, roughly 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, starts with a walk in the centre, then heads up the mountain for viewpoints over the city and a hot drink at a hikers' hut in the forest. It costs €80 per adult and €40 per child aged 3 to 12 (under 3s free), including the tour and pickup from your hotel or apartment, for 2 guests or more. Add a rooftop in the evening and you see the same view from the other side.
Which one for your evening
- Winter sunset: Sense or Kitchen59 any day, Ozone at the weekend.
- Highest view: Ozone and Spectrum at the Millennium, floors 29 and 28.
- Cathedral and Parliament view: The Scene, Sense and the ADOR terrace.
- Dinner with a show: Djanam Sky, with a ride from your hotel.
- Fish and steak without a view: Captain Cook, then Panorama upstairs.
